Welcome to my website. It is very new and under constuction so please bare with me. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Rosemary Franklin. The goal of this site is to inform anyone who wants to know about the events and experiances in my life over the next two years. I will be living in East Kilbride, Scotland as a missionary apprentice, starting on the 16th of May 2005. Please feel free to look around and learn more about me and my work for the Lord.
Ok so I know that this is a little late and I apologize for that. I do not have Internet access in my flat yet so I have to do all my stuff at Alex’s house. So for now it will take me a while to update my website. Anyways, this is how my first few days in Scotland went…..

WARNING: Wording may be off because this was written at 4:00am.
It is my second night here. It is 4:00am and I can’t sleep. I have so much on my mind. I have already done so much since I got here. Cathy (one of my teammates) and I arrived at 7:30am on the 18th of May, 2005. The trip was long, with a total travel time of 20 hours. I flew out of Sacramento at 6:20am to Houston and then from Houston to New York. I was able to see New York City out the window in the airport, while I was talking to my sister all the way in Portland, OR. Cathy met up with me there in NY and we continued to fly to Glasgow together. The plane trip seemed long. When we landed we had to go through customs, where we had a little trouble because we did not have our letters of invitation from West Mains Church of Christ. But praise God we were let in to the beautiful land of Scotland. Alex was at the airport to pick us up. I was very excited but also very tired. By this time it had been 22 hours since I had some good sleep. When we got to Alex’s car and loaded all of our luggage Cathy went to get in the passenger seat but went to the driver’s door. It was quite funny. She decided to just get in the back so I ended up sitting in the front seat. I felt like I was missing something….you know…like a steering wheel.
We went to Alex’s house for a bit and then went to pick up a few things. Alex wanted us to get cell phones and so we did. While we were getting our phones, we thought we were delusionaly tried when we saw a man sized pink rabbit and other animals walking through the mall. Come to find we weren’t the only ones to see them. Talk about culture shock!!! Next we looked at a house for let but we didn’t care for it that much.
Alex wanted us to stay up until 8:00pm. He said it would help us get over jetlag better. So after dinner I went to bed, and slept for 11 hours. (I stayed at Alex and Gillian’s). I felt pretty rested in morning, which was good because we had a lot to do. We looked at 3 flats and found one that we loved so we took it! (We moved in the 23rd of May). It is brand new, with secured entry to the building. It is on the third floor, which is the top floor. There are 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, with and open kitchen and living room. (Pictures to come). It comes with all new appliances; washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven, and gas range. The bedrooms are a little small but we will make it work. It is very rare to find a flat or house with 2 bathrooms, so we thought that the bedroom size was worth it in order to have the 2 bathrooms. Plus I really like the way he kitchen and living room is set up. There is a door in the living room that can be opened on nice days. It has been raining here a lot. They said that weather had been beautiful the last couple of weeks, so I must have brought the bad weather with me. Alex has quite a lot of stuff for our flat. Two beds, two TV’s, a microwave oven, a vacuum, dishes, and some pots and pans. (Oh, and the church bought us a couch with two matching chairs). We are going to Glasgow today with a girl Cathy is staying with (Emma), and hopefully we can get some things for the flat.
Last night, my second night here, Gillian invited me to go shopping with, Jacqueline (her daughter), her friend Pam and herself. I had so much fun. We had coffee at one of the stores in the mall. It was great to spend time with them. I really like Gillian a lot. Jacqueline and Ray (her finance) invited Cathy and I to go see Star Wars III with them on Friday night. Very exciting! We were also invited to dinner with a few people from church on Saturday.
So that was an account of my first few days here. Hope you enjoyed it. To find out more about what I am doing please read my Newsletter. I will try to update it by next week.
